Comments Thread For: Canelo Alvarez vs. Callum Smith Finalized For December 19, DAZN

Saul Canelo' Alvarez has finally made his choice. The long-awaited decision on a next date and opponent has finally been made, as Guadalaraja's Alvarez (53-1-2, 36KOs) has settled on arguably the most dangerous option. The pound-for-pound king will next face Liverpool's Callum Smith (27-0, 19KOs), with their super middleweight championship to take place December 19, likely in Texas.

I'm on board. Do think Smith belongs at 175 but as long as he doesn't have any weight stipulations, he should be healthy enough.

Callum Smith and Benavidez are good examples of two guys who should be fighting at least one weight class north of where they are. I get the distinct impression no one at 168 wants to go up to light heavyweight because Bivol and Beterbiev are there.

Easy money for the red headed white kid (who looks exactly like my cousin’s sprog from Barnsley) from Guadalajara....who’ll toy with and maul the Scouse pretender who lost to Ryder.
Two observations....1, Dazn NEEDS Canelo or it will go under in the USA....period. Mexican Americans are keeping dazn alive, without Canelo, most of them take a powder. Two, Edward Hearn really doesn’t like Oscar DeLaHoya it seems as this is like dating your best mate’s ex wife...
Also, I don’t get canelo’s excuse of “there isn’t enough time to promote a Caleb plant fight”.....and there is enough time to promote this fight with a foreign fighter that no one in the USA knows?

Given all that went off with Canelo and dazn I really didn’t think Eddie Hearn could pull this fight off. He’s long been the king promoter in the uk, is this move a huge step towards him becoming the US #1 too?

So this will be Canelo’s third Ring Belt in 3 different classes should he be victorious?

Told you guys... DAZN Global needed this!
