More like chavez sr hyping up canelo's opponent to make canelo look good as a mexican.

99% of former Mexican boxers hate Canelo and never give him credit for anything he has done. If Sr. is actually giving him props for something then that is saying a lot. Sr. has repeatedly called out Canelo and said negative things about him. You seem to not knot that in the Mexican community when it comes down to it nobody wants to see you succeed because of jealousy. The only time Mexicans shows their pride is when it is towards other non Mexicans.

The height and reach alone is a lot to overcome. Smith is similar to Rocky in that respect but Rocky is nowhere near the same fighter. This should be an interesting fight and I expect a cautious Smith to jab his way to some early rounds and attempting some body shots as he gains his confidence only to have Canelo land a solid counter and finish off Smith.

Callum Smith is a rare boxer for the present day.

Majority of tall boxers, now days, fight hunched over and lower themselves about 6 inches and wind up being shorter than their opponent. Trying to fight inside at their opponent's chest. (see: Chavez Jr., Rocky Fielding etc.)

Callum Smith doesn't do that. He's tall af (6'3") and fights tall; keeps everything (or most things) at the end of his reach (78"). Which is rare for tall guys now days.

Does this mean he certainly beats Canelo? No. But it definitely presents a new challenge to Canelo that he's not faced in his career. He's fought tall guys who fight small. He hasn't fought tall guys who fight tall. So that's a different challenge for sure.

I do wonder if he will be too slow for Canelo though. Smith is good but he's not particularly fast with his hands and Canelo will eat anyone alive who is too slow.

Interesting. I see it the exact opposite. I agree with JCC that Smith is a real threat. He's a good boxer, heavy hitter with enormous physical advantages over Canelo. Plant doesn't have a single advantage over Canelo.

The only advantage Smith has is his significant height/length (maybe 6-7 inches). I don't see him as heavy hitter. But Canelo has already beat Kovalev who was taller and had a good jab.

Plant has faster feet (probably not hands), greater stamina, and is younger.

I agree they should be fighting each other, but if Canelo was this mega talent everyone claims he is, he would have dared to be really great and would have stayed at light heavy to get that smoke with Bivol or Beterbiev in a unification. Instead, it looks like Joe Smith will be Beterbiev's next victim.
