  • Comments Thread For: Brook: Everyone's Going On About Age; Crawford's Not A Spring Chicken Himself

LAS VEGAS Kell Brook can't comprehend why his age has been mentioned among his supposed disadvantages against Terence Crawford. Brook turned 34 six months ago. Crawford, who'll box Brook on Saturday night, turned 33 on September 28. "He's only a year younger than me," Brook told BoxingScene.com after a press conference Wednesday at MGM Grand. "Everyone's going on about age. He's not a spring chicken himself."

Age isn't an issue for these guys. They're still in good standing no matter who loses. The younger guys coming up are part of the weakest generation in human history and these "old" 30-something year olds beat 90% of their asses.

There's age in years...and then there's "boxing age". Depending on how much damage a fighter has accrued, his boxing age can vary wildly. Two different fighters can be born on the exact same day and year, yet be at very different points of their boxing life. Fenando Vargas was badly shot by the time he was 30. Other fighters might still be relatively fresh at 36 years old, although most are past prime by then. Depends on many factors...weight division, individual genetics, fighting style, damage suffered in previous fights and out of the ring lifestyle choices, etc, etc.
