Comments Thread For: Promoter Not Confident Povetkin Will Be Ready By 1/30 Date For Whyte

Andrei Ryabinsky, promoter for WBC interim-heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin, is not confident that his boxer will ready in time for a tentative date of January 30 for a rematch with Dillian Whyte. Back in August, Povetkin pulled off a major upset when he knocked Whyte out cold in the fifth round of their bout.

Prograis caught Covid during his last training camp, only 1 month before the fight. He caught it, recovered and was ready to fight, all within 1 month.. but he kept it secret. Hopefully Povetkin will have a similarly speedy turnaround, but I guess different people can have different reactions.

Time frame far too short and a blessing for Whyte after such a brutal KO he should not be allowed straight back with the plans of winning then forcing a title fight .....what a clown.

Fair play to Povetkin. If he needs or wants more time he should be given it. No need to rush the guy into a fight as rough as these two guys first fight.

Regis had a bs opponent too. This is a top ten caliber fight.

And Povetkin got hospitalized. I'm not aware if Regis got hospitalized over it.

Get Povetkin back to 100% though it probably does help Whyte.

Hopefully Whyte won't ignore the Covid situation like Team Cornball Greedy Fury does/did against Team Wilder......Povetkin will need time and transparency into the musings of Team Big Mouths frustrations and future potential decision making......They (Team Whyte) should wait for Povetkins clean bill of health.....its the manly respectable thing to do

You're crazy if you don't think Wilder would have moved on rather than fight Fury a third time once the rematch clause had expired, had the fight gone the other way

There's just no hype for it, the majority felt Fury was robbed of a deserved win the first time, he wrecked Wilder the second. The only people that want to see it again is Wilder fans who know there's few realistic places to go other than retirement without a third fight.

On topic - Agree not to rush the rematch, Whyte took a heavy KO the first time and sounds like Pov needs time so once both guys are fit and healthy, then get it on

Not to mention Povetkin is 41, Prograis is 31.
