How did the absence of Cus D'Amato affect Mike Tyson in the 90s?

I might be wrong but from all the documentaries I've watched, Cus died before Mike Tyson turned pro. So he wasn't there when Tyson was knocking off creampuffs to become youngest undisputed HW champion ever.

But whimsically, people claim the absence of Cus was a problem in the 90s when the division got stronger. Like seriously, how's that possible?

The claim is just as ludicrous as the claim the Tyson peaked at age 23. You don't peak at that age as a boxer & you're not just good enough at the elite level.

I guess Audley Harrison also peaked at the Olympics then. LMAO.

Most of the claims I read about had to do with him letting Kevin Rooney go.

Well he really came apart when he no longer had the support system put in place by cus. Jacobs, cayton, Rooney. There was a noticeable difference in how he conducted himself and how he performed in the ring.

Cus died when mike was a pro like 8 fights in i think. Rooney kept him on that same cus regiment and he was able to excell. As soon as rooney left the picture a lot of the trade mark stuff wasnt their. Not as much head movement and opening up with the jab to get on the inside. The discipline was gone and it was evident

Tyson is a boxing historian and he had great respect for Cus.
