Two of Dibella Entertainment's brightest young stars met with the press today in Manhattan's Darna Restaurant to promote their twin bill card. Dmitriy "Star of David" Salita and Edgar "El Chamaco" Santana were on hand to discuss their upcoming fight card on September 20 in New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom.
Salita, 25-0-1 (15 KO) will face the rugged Francisco Campos, 20-7-1 (11 KO), a guy who gave stablemate Santana all he could handle for seven rounds. "You guys really have only seen at my best, 40% of my potential", stated Salita, possibly alluding to his recent shaky performances in the last nine months. "He's a tough guy, he fought many world champions and top guys and he's gonna bring a good fight", remarked Salita, who appeared focused and confident in his prospects. "But I expect I'll put on a good show and win in spectacular fashion." This fight will take place in the junior welterweight division, ten rounds or less.
Santana, 18-2 (12 KO), is preparing to face the tough Ukrainian Vladimir Khodokovski, 14-9-2 (3 KO). The Puerto Rican-American fighter from Harlem was very relaxed at the luncheon. Since losing twice early in his career, he has rebounded with 13 consecutive wins. He expressed a desire to win this fight, and then to hopefully headline a "Broadway Boxing" card from his native Puerto Rico sometime in the near future. The Santana-Khodokovski fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Also scheduled to appear on the undercard will be undefeated prospects "Kid Chocolate" Peter Quillin, 6-0 (5 KO), and Gary Stark Jr., 16-0 (8 KO) in seperate bouts. Quillin, a middleweight, has looked spectacular thus far in his career while the featherweight Stark has shown prodigious technical aptitude in his young career. They will both be facing the ever formidable TBA.
Promoter Lou Dibella announced that a street will be dedicated on September 22 in Atlantic City to commemorate the one year anniversary of Leavander Johnson's death last year in Las Vegas. A copy of a Gerald McLellan compilation book will be given out free to a limited ammount of ticket holders. Proceeds will be split between The Leavander Johnson Fund and The Gerald McLellan Fund.
