Comments Thread For: Callum Johnson in Boxing Purgatory Due To Hearn-Gallagher Row

By Tris Dixon - Former IBF light heavyweight challenger Callum Johnson finds himself in boxing purgatory. He's fallen between the cracks of a dispute between his trainer and manager Joe Gallagher and Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn. Johnson says he's a promotional free agent although sees himself as a Matchroom fighter. But there's been a well-publicized row..

Sucks when guys get caught in these situations. I like his attitude though.

    Should fight Yarde if possible.

      Let Eddie go

It seems like Eddie and Joe should go there own way for the sake of the fighters I’m sure Frank will snap up Joes stable

Do a Canelo and sue Hearn. Should have done it back in March. Get with Warren.

Warren has a long history of leaving his boxers in the lurch.
What ever happened to Terry Flanagan? Or the Walsh brother that fought Tank?
I actually think the problem could Joe Gallagher placing too much worth on his fighters, Liam Smith wasn’t very active under Warren either

What would he sue Hearn for? He isn't signed to Matchroom. Hearn might not be willing to give him any fights at the moment, but he is free to work with any other promoter he wants.

Go to Frank Warren then, that gets you exposure on ESPN and fights in the USA

Interesting read. Based on every Joe Gallagher interview I've seen/read, he seems a difficult character and I can see why a promoter wouldn't want to deal with him. Hearn has been accused of lowballing in the past, plus pandemic is on, plus Johnson a 35 year old contender who doesn't draw much. Not surprising he's not got any great offers, he's in a bad spot at a bad time. He's a threat to Yarde so Warren might not want him, a threat to Buatsi so Hearn might not want him either

I don't know what a fair financial offer is, but a 4 fight deal where Buatsi is the 3rd fight seems a bad offer. Suggests Hearn doesn't really want to make that fight or he wants to wait until Buatsi has a better chance of winning.

Would Warren put him in with Yarde? What do you locals think? It's 4:30 am so you should all be up by now.

Ah, Clegg basically answered my question while I was typing my intial post haha thanks

I think the offer gives them the best opportunity to make the most money. 3 fights would have it land in the summer, probably the soonest you could look for them to be fighting in a fully open 02.
