Rather than choose retirement, Gonzalez took time off to reflect, regrouped, and again won a world title belt at 115 pounds. Few people would have envisioned Gonzalez winning a world title again, especially in a talented junior bantamweight division, which includes Juan Francisco Estrada.

He’s still a very good fighter

People thought he was done from the Rungvisai fight, but really I just think Rungvisai was a very bad style for him. Even in the first which was close, you could see Rungvisai was just a fighter that could have his number, it happens.

Styles make fights and I think Rungvisai would’ve given any version of Chocolatito problems.

Doesn’t mean he’s faded and can’t beat other good fighters, although there’s no doubt he might not be quite what he once was.

In spite the global COVID-19 pandemic, there have been few boxers that came back after devastating KO during said time.

Incidentally, Roman's mandatory the new WBA 'Regular' Superfly champion Joshua Franco did something similar vs. Andrew Moloney ; Franco's victory was considered a big-upset this very same year. Joshua Franco had suffered his first TKO loss to Lucas Fernandez in 2018. Now Joshua, like Roman Gonzalez is back on top and looked great in his big win a few weeks back, and like 'Chocolatito' is scheduled to give his rival ( Moloney ) a rematch.

I dont remember something like this happening recently ; Junior Makabu, the new WBC cruiserweight also came back during COVID better than ever after suffering a brutal KO loss to Tony Bellew.

I recently seen a vid on youtube which reviewed Roman Gonzalez vs. Israel Gonzalez, the host mentioned that the high altitude in Mexico city could of affected Gonzalez performance, not that it was bad, but boxing fans are very critical. For example : When Choco went 12 with McWilliams Arroyo in 2016 people called him a bum, despite the fact that Gonzalez was unbeaten

Really shows you how awful boxing fans are when they turn on someone like Chocolatito. Who is possibly the most humble p4p ranked champion in the history of the sport.
