Teofimo Manager David McWater: Teo's probably not moving up yet

Not so fast, says manager David McWater.

Teofimo says a lot of stuff,” McWater told me on Monday, still on a high from what he saw his kid do at the MGM.

But he made clear that Lopez, in his mind, has not out-grown lightweight, so that means the span of options for his next is that much wider.

“He was 134.4 the morning of the weigh in and had three liters of water and three meals the day before,” McWater continued. “With Perfecting Athletes (a South Florida-based outfit specializing in helping fighters make weight safely) on our side, it’s a whole different game. We might move up but my guess is the next fight is a defense.”

“For me, I would want to move up if we got the winner of the Jose Ramirez-Josh Taylor fight. Other than that, I think more exciting fights are at 135.”

A press release went out Monday, the gist of it being that the winner of the Oct. 31 Lee Selby-George Kambosos fight would be ranked No. 1 by the IBF at 135, and first in line to meet IBF champ Lopez.

“Yeah, I could see us fighting Selby or Kambosos,” McWater said. “They both have big fan bases in their countries.”
So there it is. IBF will get in the way of Teofimo trying to fight Haney, but Teo's not going anywhere.

Meanwhile every other 135 fighter has a fight and recovery to deal with, except one.

Teo should say he wants all the belts, then ask the IBF to become mega champ, drop the IBF to avoid the mando, Then sit out 14 months until he can get a big money fight.

Why not defend his title 2 or 3 times since he’s the undisputed champ

Teo holding a real title that has value not some bogus belt

I’d like to see him at lightweight couple more times

          Lightweight has

          Loma rematch
          Ryan Garcia
          Gervonta Davis
          Devin Haney

I could see two of the four happening.

The remaining two will have to wait and go down at 140

Tank's not happening because he'll be in recovery for minimum 6 months after this fight, THEN he'll need another three months to train & cut for whatever.

This is Tank we're talking about.

Haney is the legit WBC but he will be in recovery for minimum 4 months and again, I strongly doubt Teo takes that fight.

Ryan will destroy Luke Campbell and need a minimum recovery period.

We don't know how long Loma's recovery will really be.

Loma rematch or Ryan Garcia in the 1st quarter next year UNLESS Campbell gets by Ryan.
