Lopez won the fight, but can we talk about round #5?

I gave round #5 to Loma. Not #2, and not #7, which some people seem to have gone with. I looked at #2 again and decided it was still a Lopez round (have not reviewed #7, but gave it to Lopez during the live fight). I think people really need to re-watch this round. For what it's worth, I had Lopez winning 6 out of the first 7 rounds, and of course round 12.

I also noticed that ESPN failed to properly capture some of Lopez punches from blind-spots. I was left wondering if much of his ( Teofimos ) work was clean or not. This first gif is a example, it appears that Loma blocks a looping right-hand, however, some of it may have made contact and the judges at real time may have considered it a clean-punch.

Did you take note of the other poor angle from ESPN? There is good reason to believe that Teo returned Lomachenko's jab with a right-uppercut to the body.

Before the 47 second mark of round 5, did you notice another blind-spot from ESPN? I see Teofimo Lopez shoot a right-hand around Lomachenko's guard. I can tell it lands because Vasily's head slightly snapped upon impact.

Here is a screenshot that shows that Teo right hand was around Lomachenko's left hand.

It seems to me that Lopez split the guard by shooting the right-hand down the middle.

In conclusion you have to factor the other three criteria's of judging : effective-aggression, ring-generalship, defense before passing judgement.

I say I lean towards Lopez to win round five for : effective-aggression and ring-generalship ; Vasily had better defense, the clean-punches were almost even -- I say that without having counted.

Round 5 Lomachenko threw a total of 9 punches landing 5 of them, only 1 of them power punches. 4 jabs and 1 hook doesn't win you a round. Lopez landed 7 of 44 that round, 5 of 16 of his power punches. So he jabbed the whole round to keep Lomachenko guessing and landed several hard body shots. Easy round to score for Lopez.

People are really reaching now, throwing 3 punches a minute is barely even fighting.

Lopez's body work in the fight was elite! Highlighted a weakness in Loma's guard/defense which his short ass arms don't help.

All I can say after your post is that so many punches are a hard call. Blaming the ****ty TV angle. It makes absolutely zero sense to show a fighter's back. Why in the **** would we want to see one of their backs during exchanges?

I see the guard hand moved completely out of place. Another hard call. Don't think it would have been a "clean" punch, but possibly slightly grazed.

You got me questioning this one now. I'm not sure. The angle of Loma's body makes it hard to say. It could have been on the elbow/arm, or a bit further left and it would have been on the body.

Another hard one to say. I think viewing this one I thought that the glove shifting out of place showed it landed on the glove. Maybe it made a slight graze? I'm not sure on this one either.
