Duran fought and beat Ernesto Marcel in about his 15th fight as a teenager from memory. I think it might have been the only time Marcel was stopped (don’t quote me on that though) and considering he went straight on to become the champ beating guys like Serrano and Arguello, that’s pretty crazy for a young teenager in his 15th or so fight. Not at lightweight though, it was a FW or SFW fight. Amazing nonetheless as Marcel was an incredible fighter and champion.

Looking over Marcel's resume (yes, the dreaded r word).....
it's all over the place with mostly guys who were meh at best. Especially his 1st 15 fights (12-2-1;5 kos). The combined W/L of his 1st 15 opponents; 68-87-25 draws.
              That's an avg w/l of 4-6-1+ draws

Ditto Duran. Opponents combined W/L 85-112-23 draws
              An avg W/L 6-8-1

              Loma's 1st 15 speaks for itself.

What became of Duran and Ernesto later on in their careers is not the point.
