    Quicker stoppages?

Is it just me or are refs stopping fights quicker lately?

Take for example the first Castillo/Corrales fight.

In my eyes, it looked like the ref stopped the fight way too quickly.

Is there a reason for this?
How do you feel about it?

If the ref didn't stop the fight, I think Castillo would've been killed.

Personally, I think that's an exaggeration.

However, this thread is not about Castillo/Corrales I.

I just used that as an example.

I do think that today's referees are more likely to stop fights earlier than the pre 1990's refs. However I think this is more to do with social changes and society's attitude to boxing than anything else. Also I'd rather have a re-match following a controversial stopage than a death.

i dont think using castillo-corrales 1 is a good example, castillo was taking flush hard shots without defending himself, plus he punishment he took for 9 other rounds but anyway
