Comments Thread For: Berlanga: I Have The Most Powerful People In Boxing Looking Out For Me

Even with a full career ahead of him and longing for the day when he sees the second round of a fight, Edgar Berlanga Jr. has never felt more complete as a prizefighter. The red-hot super middleweight prospect from Brooklyn, New York is brimming with confidence ahead of his upcoming step-up fight versus Lanell Bellows. The two collide Saturday evening, live on ESPN from The Bubble at MGM Grand in Las Vegas in support of the lightweight superfight between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez.

      I’m not convinced yet!

I have seen many fighters start their careers off with these high knockout ratios against non discript opposition and we later find out they can’t take it well themselves nor do they have the fortitude once taken into deep water, I am not sayomg that will be the case but it is possible. I need to always see how a fighter responds when in a tight spot, boxing is a sport where you have to be an overcomer. Make me a believer!

That headline sounds an awful lot like: I am going to be a protected franchise fraud like floyd and canelo.

When a fighter knows he's protected he loses that fraction of desire, dedication, hunger, drive and he becomes a protected stagnant fraud like spence wilder broner davis etc.

He's going to be in the Top Rank Protection Program.

Floyd fought everyone in his error to fight except Paul Williams and did it at a high level so many years, Spence is still active and has ran from no one. Davis has taken what’s been offered; how often do you hear someone call to fight him if he not the truth!

In fact go watch bad mitten you are obviously looking at the wrong sport clown.........

I don't see where Edgar Berlanga is being protected by his promoter, or manager. He's fought opponents with decent records during the early stages of his career. Tonight we'll get a better gage of where he is at in the 168 pound division. Lanell Bellows has never been knocked out, has punching power, he's also fought, and beat good opponents. It can be argued that he should have 6 more wins on his records. Due to close fights in which the decisions went to his opponents, and draws that could have been decided in his favor. Lanell Bellows can very well be 26-2 (13KO's), instead of his actual record of 20-5-3 (13KO's). This is a very dangerous opponent, and good test for Edgar Berlanga at this stage of his career. So like I said I don't see where he's being protected. Even if he were to lose this fight, he still has a bright future in boxing. He's young strong, can box, and hasn't been in any wars.
