Why is the Linares win so heavily highlighted for Loma?

Wasn’t Jorge Linares’ best win against Luke Campbell and Anthony Crolla who are common opponents with Loma? Wasn’t Linares stopped early by a nobody in a TV Azteca card? This was following his loss to Antonio Demarco who Adrien Broner destroyed. Why is this even heavily considered a big win for Loma?

Loma’s best wins are against Walters and Gary Russel Jr. at the lighter weights. After really dissecting Loma’s resume, it’s good, but it’s not great. I’m measuring his resume at lightweight (not anything before) compared to Teofimo and it’s not that much better.

Linares was #1 and lineal lightweight champ who Mikey Garcia moved up to 140 instead of fighting. Hadn’t lost a fight in eight years and was way ahead of DeMarco before losing off of a cut.

And you’re saying their 135 resumes are equal?? Aside from Commey, teo’s fought club fighters and curtain jerkers.

Linares at the time was arguably #1 and at the time and at worst #2 at lightweight.

He was also on a 7 win streak (as champion) and himself said prepared for Lomachenko by fighting 2 southpaws prior.

This was also Lomachenkos first fight at 135 without fights to adjust to the weight. Who does that? Also Linares was HUGE in comparison so I personally don't understand how Teofimo is so big when he isnt bigger than Linares.

Instead of only looking at face value of Lomachenkos resume how about understanding the context of it instead.

Loma has fought and beat clean every single major player at 135 and everyone who had a belt. He didnt play any games or make any excuses.

I pray for the "fans" of Devin Haney when Loma rolls his way and they dont have any excuses for their guy.

It’s one of the bigger stronger guys it also resembles his opponent coming up in terms of power and reach some explosive skills as well. Loma will be more weary now and should pull out a UD with some scares early .

To add to above valid points, he also got shoulder injury in 2nd or 3rd round resulted surgery and 4-5 month recovery. So yeah it is a really good win.

I agree, Walters and Russell are his best wins. They are both better fighters in comparison to Linares. Linares is a good world class fighter. But hes a half step down from the other two imo, both of whom id favor over him.

Yeah I guess. I wouldn't say it was to avoid Linares though.

Loma moved up to 135 and took on one of the best at the weight at the time.

First fight at 135, took on a bigger opponent who many on this board said would KO Loma. After a flash knockdown Loma came back smarter and won by stoppage. Remember, Linares was the guy who Mikey avoided, all eyes were on a potential Linares/Mikey showdown. Loma stepped up and did what Mikey didn't want to do.

Mikey fought a better fighter than linares for more money.
