It’s a mixture of having the right timing/reflexes, technique and body type. Short stocky guys like Berto and Broner will never have success with it. It worked for Hopkins because he had the right technique for it. He wasn’t naturally as talented and gifted as Mayweather was, but B-Hop was the poster child of “hard work pays off.”Comment

It was a very common technique back in the old days. Used by
Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore and so on and so forth.
To be awesome with it you should start as young as possible though.

It won't come along late in a boxers career. A young fighter has to be disciplined and work on it on a consistent basis.
Devin Haney will be the next to perfect it.
