    Compare Floyd's career with Margarito's, can't compare

so how does who floyd fight merrit a fight with margarito ?

if margarito would drop his wbo strap ...fight for a number one contender spot and THEN floyd would HAVE to fight him or move UP
if he moves up hes clearly ducking...but not when hes opting to fight the number 1 guy at welterweight

I'm not sure the point of this thread. Nobody is denying that Baldomir has earned his position and is the welterweight champ. That's not up for debate. Goosen is stating the obvious.

The criticism for Floyd is that Baldomir was already the champ before he fought Judah, so why wouldn't he have fought Baldy then? Instead of the guy who just lost to Baldy? And it's abundantly clear that Floyd wants absolutely nothing to do with Margarito, either way. He wasn't going to sign to fight Margarito, no matter if Baldy won or lost against Gatti, it was just fortunate that Baldy won, so Floyd can save a little face by making this fight with him (which have some very su****ious numbers attached to it).

But hey, we'll see what happens afterwards. If Floyd and Margarito both win, which they will, then Floyd's going to be right back on the hot seat with another offer from Arum to fight Margarito in Feb. Floyd is already looking ahead to that possibility and trying to derail that talk before it happens. He's doing a good sell-job, esp on a lot of casual fans and his own fans, but it doesn't change the fact that Margarito is universally regarded as the most dangerous fighter at welter, and Floyd has a gift-wrapped huge payday laid at his feet to fight him. If he signs to fight him after Baldomir, then great, I'll respect Floyd for that. I'm 99% positive that he will NOT, however. He's going to go after Spinks instead. You can see he's already trying to set the stage for that.

Floyd was contracted to fight Zab before the fight. They fought, now hes moving on to Baldy. I dont see nothing wrong with that...

Where did you get your numbers. PBF is making more than $8M guaranteed to fight Baldy, plus he's getting PPV upside. Baldy sells more PPVs than Margo can ever hope to do. His last PPV, with Mosley on the card, barely broke the 30,000 homes mark. PBF, on the other hand, has two straight PPVs with over 350,000 PPV buys each.

Arum only made the Margo offer after he saw how huge PBFs numbers were, even when he was fighting someone coming off a loss to a virtually unknown fighter. Margo was only going to make about $2M for that fight. Tata is making a guaranteed $4M AND he's the Welterweight champ.

Margo is best known for losing to Daniel Santos and beating a 6-heads Lewis that Mayorga destroyed and a Kermit Cintron coming off two hand surgeries and the longest layoff of his career. Baldy beat the man that beat the man that beat the man. He's the linear world champ and he's more of a household name now that he beat Gatti.

I expect 400,000 PPV buys, at least. With the Argentinian fanbase that Tata carries, it will probably sell more.

Plus, Baldy vs. Margo would be a toss-up, in my book. Margo's conditioning is suspect as he fades in the later rounds and Baldy comes on strong in the later rounds. I think Baldy could KO Margo after the 9th since we know he has the power to do so or it would go to a very close decision.

In any case, Baldy is no less of a challenge than Margo, he makes more money for fighting him, and he gets the recognition of being the Undisputed Welterweight World Champion if he beats him. What does he get for figting Margo? Less money and the WBO belt? Come on! It doesn't make sense to fight Margarito. He's not ducking him, he's making the right choice.
