Comments Thread For: Nathan Gorman Bounces Back, Decisions Lartey Over Ten

Nathan Gorman got back to winning ways as he ground out a messy ten-round points decision over Richard Lartey in a Commonwealth heavyweight title eliminator at the BT Studios. Gorman did the better work throughout, but too often it was a case of jab and grab. Referee Bob Williams ticked both off for holding, but it was Gorman who looked the more guilty and Lartey the one who got more and more frustrated.

Gorman was 350lbs!?!? Had to lose 77lbs to come in looking like that.

What the **** is wrong with him. Is it really that hard for a professional sports man not be massively overweight?

They must have some serious competitiveness and serious dedication to get to TV level. So what the **** leads these guys to get so fat?

Whyte, Ruiz, Gorman to name a few. I'll exclude Tyson because he clearly has mental health issues.

Gorman took a worse loss , he lost point blank with no win over a rival .

If anything these are the guys you don’t sleep on that win not in ideal shape . I didn’t see the fight but I’m assuming he wasn’t buzzed like DDD and fought a smart win shedding off ring rust in ten rounds .

You don't fight Lartey to shed rust. You fight Lartey so you can be compared to dubois.

Ok. Gorman wasn't buzzed but he stunk the place out. He had to hang on frequently. He barely looked 1 level above Lartey.

The Dubois fight should have been a wake up call. He has the core skills. But he'll never achieve his potential ballooning up to 350lbs between fights.

They could all claim mental health issues. It would be the easiest excuse in the world.

Only one of them did, but that shouldn't be any indication of who has problems and who doesn't.

At the end of the day, they all lost their discipline and gained weight. In two cases (Ruiz and Fury) it cost them belts.

Had Fury come back as fast as Gorman did we would see a 350 pound Fury as well if not heavier .

The wake up call was to take on a guy that buzzed DDD in the worst possible shape and he did . You can’t criticize one guy and not the other , Gorman is not a former champion either .

Whyte beats him easily. Gorman will never reach world level. He looked awful, the only reason he won was he fought a journeyman with no jab.

If anything these are the guys who never really manage to put it together.

Guys who were regularly ill disciplined and unprofessional don't usually suddenly turn their life around and never again revert to type.

Fury's a bit of an exception. But I still think he will implode at some point.

Gorman has potential as a boxer, but won't realise it. Doesn't have the dedication required.
