Pros? Hmm... making assumptions here of course but..He has first hand knowledge in terms of competing, so he has that perspective. He has also been taught so at the very least, he’s picked up knowledge from his own trainer(s) and can adapt some of that into what he feels is actually functional for the ring (from experience also). He could be very understanding when it comes to the stressors of weight management, juggling a personal (and probably professional too) life outside of boxing. And if he isn’t really famous and means well, he’s also going to likely have some good personal advice about the pro world, and realistic expectations for pay and things of that nature.
Cons? Hmm... Although anyone can technically be a pro, if he’s making his living (or part of) in boxing as well (training/coaching) he at least takes it serious enough where he’s probably decent and has put in time. Compared to most AVERAGE amateurs, an AVERAGE pro is really, really good in comparison...
One thing people don’t realize who have never boxed themselves is just how good your average pro boxer is - as in someone who put in the time and just isnt mega talented. But this brings us to one of the main cons from fighters who coach/train. When you’re good at something (especially naturally), sometimes it’s hard to put yourselves in the shoes of someone who isn’t. You could be getting taught something that worked or works for them but they have no awareness of your struggles to grasp certain things.
When you’re good, it’s hard to know what it’s like to not be and won’t have the patience for them.
This is why being a good fighter doesnt necessarily translate to being a good teacher. If you’re not particularly strong willed like a fighter for example, their tolerance for you might be a little less. Things like that.
I’ll give you an example. In Mexico, the weak runners or dudes who would kind of just gas out and not push, b itch about being hit too hard, “needed” extra breaks, weren’t learning their lessons on the fly like “pick your hand up or youre going to keep getting hit. -bam, hits them- -does it ten times in a tow- stop being a dumb a ss!” and you just kind of get less attention. It can be really toxic.
People don’t like to hear it but they are realities in some gyms. You should try it though and keep an open mind. Everyone is different. -
Knowledge is a good thing but study what he teaches does he teach strictly pro style or does he also teach amateur style thats the key you have to analyze . Because sometimes pro style gets you losses in amateurs because you're not fighting in and out using a point system to land quick clean punches to the head. Many time amateur boxing will not even count body shotsComment
