Lewis Ritson vs. Miguel Vasquez. Who knows about Ritson?

We all know about Miguel Vazquez. A tough, rugged warrior for nearly two decades in the twilight of his career.

Took a freshly debuted future superstar in Carnelo Alvarez the full distance and almost beat him in Vazquez's first fight.

Got sparked out by Josh Taylor after really testing Taylor.

Quits against Mbenge - who we all know would go on to get dominated for the IBO title by Sebastian 'Man Bun' Formella.

But the Taylor loss was the key moment it was clear this guy was nearing the end - and he should be just a name for Ritson's resume.

The question is, how good is Ritson?

I ask that and I'm not sure, because it so turns out that in his very first fight as a pro, he was taken the full distance by THIS guy. Who I've covered in years past.

I first took notice of Ritson when he destroyed Patrick Hyland Jr. After that win I went back and watched his fights against Barret, Cardle and Murray. He looked alright, definitely heavy handed but I wasn't sold on him being world level. The Paterena fight was a good test for him and he failed. A world class fighter wouldn't struggle with a domestic Euro like Francesco Paterena. He could still KO Vasquez. A hard punching domestic fighter can look good against a washed up former champ but that doesn't make them World class. Kinda like how Eggington destroyed Malignaggi but then got beat by Mimoune. I'll pick Ritson to win but it could be close...depends on how much Vasquez has left in the tank

Interesting. I'm on the fence to put money on Vasquez for a shock upset. The odds look really tempting.

        Ritson is ok

He was demolishing decent domestic level fighters in one or two rounds when he was British Champion. Although they were just British title fights, usually a fighter that is tearing through them like nothing, they usually goes on to a much higher level. He seemed a bit of a revelation at the time because of how easy he was beating these guys, it was pretty shocking Because he kind of a appeared out of nowhere on the scene and whooping half decent durable fighters in a round.

He did step up for a European title fight and had a lacklustre performance but he was also really struggling at the weight and I think it was a bit of an off night and maybe a fight or too soon. I think he had fallen in love with his power a bit and abandoned his boxing. He was a pretty tidy amateur boxer and in his last fight with Robbie Davies Jr. He seemed to be back to boxing a bit more.

I don’t think is a worldbeater and probably not ever going to win a world title unless he gets some really easy vacant fight, but he is solid, good jab and good power and seems to be much better condition at 140.

He’s nothing special but definitely shouldn’t be taken lightly, because he’s dangerous on his night. Everyone that’s been in the ring with him say he is very heavy-handed, more than his record suggests. A lot of his distance fights were in 4 or 6 rounders against guys who make a living surviving so they can fight every few weeks.

To be fair that guy has been stopped five times in about 270 losses haha

He literally made a living out of knowing how to survive over four rounds

I've seen Ritson fight a couple of times. Once in an entertaining scrap with Robbie Davies Jr. on a DAZN card last year. It was a close fight but Ritson was the clear winner in my opinion. I also saw him come up short when he fought for a vacant European title.

He should beat Vasquez at this stage of his career, but from what I've seen so far, I'm not convinced that he is a future world champion or anything.

I wouldn't look too much into the fact that he was taken the distance by that fighter with the atrocious record in his pro debut. While Ritson is not a big puncher or anything, that dude that he fought in his debut has taken 274 other fighters the full distance as well. He must have a decent chin, and be good enough to give some young fighters some good work.

His fight against Robbie Davies was a good one, and worth a watch for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Vasquez probably doesn't have much in the tank these days, so they've tried their hand at some shrewd matchmaking.

I think Ritson is a decent fighter, I can't see him doing close to anything at world level though.

Laight was actually quite defensively sound. But that's all he had.
