    Comments Thread For: Zepeda Favors Lomachenko Over Lopez, Open To Moving Back To 135 For Winner

    Three months ago, Jose Zepeda was hoping to have fought Ivan Baranchyk and-with a win-move on to a second shot at the junior welterweight title. Even with the aforementioned matchup back on the schedule, the former two-time title challenger has his sights on a different kind of opportunity. "I've been thinking a lot about the fight between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez," Zepeda (32-2, 25KOs; 2NC) told BoxingScene.com of the upcoming October 17 World lightweight title fight. "In my career, I've gone down to 135 for good opportunities like my first world title fight when I went to England. I'm able to do 135."

    Jose Zepeda says that he'd be willing to go back to down to 135 to face the winner of Lomachenko, and Lopez. That some bold talk, and I'd be interested in seeing that fight unfold, if they can make it happen. Zepeda can box with the best of them, and he has a proven chin. He'd have a good chance of boxing his way to a decision win against either of them. That said if he gets caught be either of those two, it could mean lights out.

      Zepeda should have to get in line for a shot at the winner. Can't just jump the queue over everybody else.

        If Zepeda has a good chin why would you expect a non puncher like Lomo to put his lights out?

          I agree with most on this;

          MF’er get in line and fight your way to #1 spot at lightweight 1st, boxing don’t work that way unless you already are an established champion then I could very well see them pulling strings for you, but you are just some ordinary joe blow who’s failed twice at opportunities! Get yo a_s in line.........

            Check out Lomachenko's record at BoxRec 14-1 (10 KO's), that's a 66 1/3 % KO ratio. He was riding a 9 KO streak prior to his last couple of fights, and the commentators were referring to him as Lomas. A "no mas", comparison to Roberto Duran's quitting against Sugar Ray Leonard the second fight, because his opponents were quitting in the ring as opposed to be knocked out. Make no mistake Lomachenko can punch, and if he gets his opponent hurt they rarely hear the final bell. He's also been known to knock out opponents with a body punch, not just a punch to the jaw.

              making boxers quit is different to putting their lights out though.

                In my book it might be worse to quit, because that means lomanchenko broke their will to win, compete, finish the fight. His opponent knew he was going to get knocked out, and chose not to continue. Quiting in boxing is a cardinal sin, Roberto Duran who was loved in Panama, received death threats after he quit against Sugar Ray Leonard.

                  I don't dispute this.
                  But you are only proving my point that lomo doesnt have one punch ko power.
