Remember when everyone said Mayweather vs. McGregor was a "disgrace" to the sport of boxing? Why am I not feeling the same energy right now?

      July 11, 2017:

Freddie Roach believes Conor McGregor can beat Floyd Mayweather

Freddie Roach has gone back and forth with his opinion of whether or not Conor McGregor can pull off a stunning upset against Floyd Mayweather Jr, but apparently Manny Pacquiao’s recent loss to Jeff Horn has helped the trainer make up his mind.

In an interview with Greg Bishop of Sports Illustrated, Roach said he believes McGregor has a chance to beat Mayweather after what he saw Horn do to Pacquiao.

If the MMA star Conor McGregor wanted to beat Mayweather in August, Roach says, he now had a blueprint for how it’s possible: pressure, roughhouse, engage — basically what Horn did to Pacquiao, turning a boxing match into something closer to a brawl. “I wouldn’t count McGregor out anymore,” Roach says. “He can win if he gets the right breaks.”

He’s asked if he felt the same way before Australia. “I don’t think so,” Roach admits.

I will disagree. Prior to the Floyd fight I would have thought so as well but Conor knows how to use his size/reach and older Manny will not just instantly come in and do what he wants until Conor gasses. Then, of course, it's lights out.

McGregor isn't going to fight Manny. He is just keeping himself in the news... An old Floyd tactic...

Conor needs to stay away from boxing, just got a bigger payday than most boxers will ever see in their career in only one fight. Nothing to prove and he did pretty decent but lets not pretend like he wouldn't be in trouble against a boxer that actually hits hard soon as he gasses out

I just wish he would stick to MMA as there are a lot of good fight there for him.
These kinds of 'publicity' fights, again raise the issue of the line between what is sport and what is entertainment. Of course we consider sports and/or combat sports as entertainment. Are we doing more damage than good to the sport, when we allow financial gain to take precedent over the sport itself ?

The bottom line is much more about name recognition and global attraction. I suppose people will consent to just about anything if the money is right...unfortunately.
