  • Comments Thread For: Canelo vs. Yildirim WBC Purse Bid Postponed To October 6

Saul Canelo' Alvarez and Avni Yildirim have two more weeks to discuss a fight which nobody seems to want. The two boxers are in contention for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight title, with such a fight heading to a purse bid hearing to determine promotional rights for the contest. The session was due to take place September 21, only for the Mexico City-based sanctioning body to push back the date to October 6.

There is nobody on God’s green earth who is hyped for this fight. Who cares about the purse bid?

Did his fan base say the same about Rocky Fielding, etc.?

I think Boxing in general is going downhill, all about fake fans and the social media narrative.

This fight will attract about the same amount of interest as a tupperware party.

Yildrim? Really? Canelo is phoming this one in and he knows it. He is either trying to screw with his promoter by taking such an unattractive fight, or is just doing what he sometimes does best - picking some low-hanging fruit with just enough gloss and taste left on it to look ok on his record.

Of course, the WBC will give Canelo a belt for just turning up, like they do in Kindergärten.

Even a fight between him and the one dimensional but hard-working, hard punching Lemieux would attract more interest, as Canelo begins to evolve into his role-model and villain Floyd Jr.

People will start turning out just hoping to see this obviously selfish, narcissistic, ********** get KO'd.

What happened to Callum Smith? BJS? Dirrell? Chudinov? Plant? Even Jacobs II? IMO the best has to be Benavidez who has the advantage of age, height, KO %

On thing one will notice about Saul's record id that he has rarely fought undefeated fighters. In his 50+ fights, about 5 have been against guys with 0 losses.

Ok so Yildrim has earnt his shot, is ranked across the board, but we know he isn't on Canelo's level.

Perhaps this is all just a filibuster to avoid getting in the ring and punishing his body for 12 rounds a third time with GGG - who will be slower, but still strong, seems to have remembered body shots, and goddamnit he deserves a rubber match seeing as he got pinched in the first fight.

We'll see in time who the real opponent will be, but this is the softest route to 'another belt'

I don’t think this fight will happen.

But you do realize scum like GGG, bjs and Smith are the definition of narcissist right?

On top of being just ****ty ppl don’t forget GGg didn’t wanna help his countrymen and fellow Kazakh boxer when he arrive in the US yet canelo went ahead and gave that Kazakh work as a sparring partner.

Ggg told his fellow up n coming Kazakh boxer “ I can not help you with any work thing are different here in the states sorry” that came directly from the horses mouth too.

Mexican cherry picker really wants to fight that kebab guy badly. Embarrassing! Hope DAZN stands their ground and doesn't pay for this crap.

There are so many more deserving fighters out there to fight, and this is the guy he chooses. There's even a vacant title on the line that the WBC is sanctioning. Canelo is going to start losing fans in droves, you can't call yourself the best, and then not fight the best opposition available. This guy's arrogance is going to catch up with him, and probably soon. You can't fight this this type C level opponent, and expect to remain at your best. He acts like he's above boxing, doesn't care that his fans also want to see him continue to prove himself against top level fighters. I won't be watching this fight unless it's on free TV.

Dude stop bringing up GGG and fueling the haters and the trolls. GGg ain’t got shet to do with this article.

Jake Donovan made his opinion in the article along with the redundant news we already knew, that any fights atm with this lawsuit don’t even make any sense unless there are specific details that allows Canelo to fight elsewhere.

It even seems like the WBC is simply doing all this to PRESENT something for DAZN’s evaluation for the closing year. It might come down to another Fielding schedule where Canelo gave DAZN a fight to introduce his welcome on the platform for $17mil.

Canelo haters forget, though industry embraced, that from Sept to December, Canelo gave fans a GGG fight to his 168 limit introduction. Fielding isnt elite, but he was HOLDING a secondary strap that isn’t new to criticism... just like how PAC had to get Matthysse’s WBA Regular. Fans don’t bring that up because they’re ****** or just want other fans not to know...

The WBC are not shy to let industry know that they love to impose “gifts” like art made straps for shameless promotion.

If seems like the WBC are insecure that their purse bid means nothing for the Canelo situation and are insecure with what’s going on, so they’re just prolonging the deadline in hopes that Canelo’s contract gets sorted out. Fck GGG

I don't think Canelo specifically asked for yildrim.

However, the situation is that, whoever fights for this title, they have to fight yildrim.

Dazn appear unwilling to meet canelos guarantee for anyone except Golovkin - who refuses to fight canelo next as he wants that easy payday for his own mandatory.

This is a good opportunity for promoters and fighters to just disregard these "sanctioning bodies" and make the fights that people will pay to see so they can earn the $$$ they want!

It's funny to hear Canelo fans defend this attempt to take the cheap route to a title and act like he didn't know it'd be Yidilgrim he'd have to face. Canelo never once mentioned facing benavidez when he was wbc champ, but the second that belt was vacant, he jumped on it knowing he'd be asked to face their #1 contender, who happened to be a guy that was wiped out by Eubank Jr. Canelo fans hate to admit the truth because they've spent yrs saying mayweather minimized risk, only to watch canelo minimize risk for the better part of the last 6 yrs by facing mostly 35 and over competition, C level opponents and implement catchweights /rehydration clauses.
