So I've recently been watching some old documentaries from the 60's and 70's and where if men got into arguments, they would settle it with their fists most of the time.

Fast forward today and everyone is quick to pick up a gun instead of using their fists.

There is a clip on youtube where a gang member punches another gang member square in the mouth. Instead of punching back, he grabs his gun and shoots the man.

Why is it so different these days?

You answered your question though. You said a dude punched another dude and the dude retaliated and shot him. So if you are sensible, you will prepare that. You might be willing to throw hands but you will carry a gun in case your opponent has one.
