I won't say Canelo didn't listen because it wasn't put directly to him but Floyd put it out to the public.

I don't like Canelo or Oscar and I think it is funny that Canelo is suing him. If Canelo wins do you think someone else is going to pay him 35 million a fight? Who could he fight to make even close to that much money. It took Mikey and Ward years to break their contracts and fight again.

Problem is nobody is willing to pay him 35 million a fight right now even if it was contracted. You’re right a court case could take years. I’d love to see a judge try and define “premium” opponent. There’s rankings in boxing, which would be one way to define the term. I think it would be hard for DAZN if they want to define a premium opponent as a comeback Oscar or two mma fighters? Am I wrong in this?

as much as canelo is a cherry picking fighter, he is right. He signed for $35 million a fight. I wouldn't care if there is a great flood across the planet on some biblical ****, I'd want my $35 million for the next fight after the water dries up. I'm sure there is nothing in the contract that states he has to take a pay cut in the event of a pandemic

You are right, but if the contract is guarenteed, as implied from the beginning, I don't really see how DAZN can make any defence in court. If they signed a guarenteed $35M per fight for Canelo, that is their own look out. Can't use the pandemic as an excuse, if they don't honour their contracts, that is a very slippery slope, and we would see the majority of their roster of fighters abandoning ship. Would be like getting a new job, contracted at $5,000 a month, then after a couple of months, the company decides they are gonna lower your pay to $1,500 a month, just because. It doesn't work like that, they are in breach of the contract. Could spell the end for DAZN, and honestly I don't care for them. On a personal level, it will be nice to see Eddie Hearns brought back to reality, with DAZN crashing and burning.

Should check out The Neutral Corner with Michael Montero. One of the better boxing podcasts out there and he talks at length about the case. Not so much Floyd.

I'm sure the language used in these types of contracts can be misinterpreted by certain parties.
Like is it 35mil per fight or does his eventual 11 fights need to add up to 365mill and the guarantee isnt 35 per fight if its not a premium opponent.
All we know atm is that Canelo wont be fighting for a very long time which kinda sux cause hes an awesome fighter.

And it must be remembered that outside of a couple of Canelo fights as the A-side, he usually did about 300k PPV’s.

He doesn’t generate enough money to be a $35 million fighter. DAZN overpaid him to make a statement that they are serious by getting one of the biggest boxing stars in the world, but because he necessarily recoups the money just by himself. No different to PBC overpaying fighters at the start to attract other good names and build something, generally taking GBP fighters away.

Nothing is going on except that Canelo got the richest contract in boxing history and much more than he is worth. He should be thanking Oscar, not suing him. Canelo wants to leave DAZN and never fight for them again. he still wants DAZN to pay him 280 million bucks for fights he will never fight for them. I doubt any judge or jury will think that is fair and give the greedy guy what he wants. Right now Canelo is trying to fight a turk for a vacant WBC world title on show time. This Turk was quickly KOed by Eubank not so long ag and lost to Direll as well.
