I see this very simple from a BUSINESS perspective.

When has Canelo generated money without a big name opponent? Never.

What DAZN is asking only makes common sense. Why would they pay him $35 million when he can't even generate half of that? The only way to generate $35 million is to have a big name opponent, who, will also ask for big dollars, e.g. $10m, so that means they need to generated $45m.

Canelo is not a massive generating star, for some reason, ppl on this forum think he is. Yes he's popular with many Mexicans (not all,any see him as it is), but the simple business logic is, you get paid what you generate. DAZN over paid him as a "loss leader", knowingly that he doesn't generate the revenue but after a few years with hope it would pay them back.

AJ generates money, whether directly from fans paying for him or from rich countries paying him, but the principle is that his purse is paid for (not by debt like Canelo) before he turns out.

Its a bit like working in a sales job and generating less sales than your salary, your boss may give you the first year to build your patch, but you'd want to be showing them that you are going to bring in much higher sales later.

DAZN finds masvidal and odh as premium. Lmfao.

Just goes to show you how things work. Everyone wants money and everyone tries to copy successful events.

How embarrassing would it be if 30 yr old canelo fought coke head odh?

I guess the masvidal fight could, if properly marketed, would be a big seller.

Seems like a very plausible and sensible explanation....Very may well be that DAZN views our current global economic situation/pandemic as the perfect time to attempt to jump ship from that albatross, hence playing hardball with canelo. They may figure in courts that they"ll be afforded some type of financial, atleast they're hoping, relief from the contract because of the strain this whole pandemic has cause to the industry.

I figured out why this is guys. The social media age has taken over and dictating who DAZN consider premium and who they don't. It's all about potential viewers and that is a statistic that they are starting to get from followers on social media.. The fighters promote the fights themselves through their social media so the more followers the more potential buyers.. Less followers, less potential buyers..

              Look at Twitter followers..

              Oscar De La Hoya 950K+
              Khabib 1.1 Million+
              Jorge Masvidal 600K +

              compare with..

              Callum Smith 150K
              Billy Joe 150K

Does anyone at DAZN have the slightest clue what they're doing? They shit the bed putting Hearn in charge, and now Canelo is the only hope of staying in business in America.

De la Hoya-Canelo as an event is feasible and Oscar considered it before when GBP was going through troubles, but Canelo's too large now.

The other two fights might drive some subs for a few months but could be absolute disasters of events.
