For Canelo's sake, I hope he knows something we don't, and uses it as a leverage play.

I don't get why he's suing GBP, that's just fighting an uphill battle for no reason. Right now they're defending him saying it's all DAZN's fault, but if things start going badly for GBP, they'll switch sides against Canelo and he'll have no chance.

Canelo's reasoning makes no sense either. Sports tanked everywhere due to the pandemic, he's asking GBP to give him an alternate and they can't.. because a) there are none, and b) hello, they have a contract with DAZN?

Unless he realllllllly knows a secret, he's gonna be dragged through courts for 2-3 years, and most likely will not get anything.

No other fighters bring in subs. It’s a fact that when Canelo fights they saw an increase in monthly and yearly subscriptions. More than AJ or any other fighter.
So DAZN is going to spend millions in court against their top draw while he’s not fighting and making them money. All while they have bleed subscribers in 2020 due to a lack of cards.
Canelo has made big money the last decade and I’ve seen legal experts say he has a solid breach of contract case. He can afford to sit out if he thinks he will win or that DAZN and Golden Boy will settle or agree to a buyout.
I’d rather be in Canelo’s position here than DAZN.
still. Dazn has more power and mobey than canelo. If the contract state's that dazn has a say on canelos opponents. I don't see much going canelos way. I really don't care either way. He lost a case a few years back when he changed promoters. Him and dlh paid a few millions.

This is what happens in 2020 when you try to force boxers to face their toughest competition. They sue you.

You think De La Hoya is Canelo's toughest competition?

Because that's who DAZN listed as one of their approved, "premier" opponents.

Great matchups would have done great numbers. Great fights would have stopped the financial bleeding. Great matchups would have encouraged further investment. Great matchups would have made it worthwhile to be apart of the DAZN experiment. But we are in agreement about overpaying Canelo. They had a billion dollar war chest and 360 million of it was spent on Canelo. I said this when it was announced, what a dumb move for Dazn to pay Canelo that much money. Especially if they weren’t going to match him aggressively.

DAZN is currently bleeding money and subscribers. I’m sure they can afford good lawyers but it’s not profitable to have your bigges driver of subs in court and not in the ring making DAZN money.
Also if they settle with Canelo or go to trial and Canelo wins most likely DAZN would pay Canelo’s legal costs.
