Larry Holmes vs. John Tate WBC/WBA unification.

Why did this fight never happen? And who would have won?

Because Weaver wound up KOing Tate and a Holmes vs Weaver fight was a foregone conclusion as Holmes decisively beat Weaver already.

I would say Holmes uses his excellent jab and better technical ability to win a hard-fought and competitive decision or maybe a late stoppage.

Tate had a pretty good chin and also had decent technical skills himself. So it wouldn’t be an easy night for Holmes.

Had Tate not switched off in the last round against Weaver. (a fight he was comfortably ahead in) I imagine the fight would have happened or at least been discussed/negotiated.

          - -Tubsy Lar record against standing champs 0-6, so I reckon he'd go 0-7.
