He's not a monster but he is a concussive puncher an absolutely massive middleweight. Maybe not height and reach wise but I wouldn't expect him to be giving up any weight to Sergey come fight night. Its not like he would just run over Kovalev, It would definitely be a shootout but if they were fighting next I'd have to pick David. Just because I think he has more left at this stage of his career and because he's always been able to come back from his losses where Kovalev has looked exponentially worse everytime he's been knocked out. Also he was in no way in his prime when he lost to Rubio. He was a 22 year old kid with no experience at the top level against a grizzled vet with 55 pro fights. And he didn't get beat down. He didn't look terrible. He certainly had his moments that night but Rubio fought a tough gritty fight and was just too much too soon for a young prospect in Lemuiex. I dont know when exactly his prime would be but he's been steadily improving as he's gone along with his career. Even since the Golovkin fight he's been getting better.

Kovalev is old and can’t take a punch.
If Lemieux touches him, it’s over.
And it’s not like Kovalev is a slickster. He’ll probably get caught at some point.

I assume this question was asked for a specific reason lol. But judging by Kamil's KO percentage, I have to imagine he can box really well to get the record he has. That or he has had a lot of breaks. Kovalev has been neutered but he can still box well, for a 175 fighter. If Kov is neutered enough and can't hurt Kamil then he should still be able to outbox him. Only caveat now for Kov is just how 'done' he really is.
If he is a sitting duck at some point in the middle-late round in all of his fights going forward, then he will get KOed by guys who can just hang in there even if they aren't big punchers. I wouldn't feel comfortable picking Kovalev to win any fight going forward against a good pro at 175. He just seems to always have a moment or 3 in his fights now of being a sitting duck and a good, not even great, fighter will take advantage of that. If Kamil had the same pedigree at 175 as he does at 160 I would probably pick him. But weight classes exist for a reason.Comment
