  • Comments Thread For: Jermell Charlo: I Actually Wasn't Surprised Jeison Rosario Beat J-Rock

Jermell Charlo was one of the few people in boxing that wasn't stunned when Jeison Rosario upset Julian Williams. Philadelphia's Williams was a 30-1 favorite to beat Rosario and had produced the biggest win of his career in his previous fight, his own upset of then-undefeated Jarrett Hurd. The largely unknown Rosario also had been dropped three times and stopped by Nathaniel Gallimore in the sixth round of their bout less than three years before he challenged Williams for the IBF, IBO and WBA 154-pound titles.

A fighter who roughs up and beats up Julian for a stoppage win is someone you do not take lightly.
    Do so at your peril.

I really don't know, I've always thought that J-Rock is a very inconsistent fighter, one night he does wonders, the other he gets destroyed.

What stands the most to me is that he is crafty but he doesn't know how to survive nor to keep his composure during the fight, if things don't go his way he get's out of the gameplan and starts making mistakes.

Rosario is tough but I'm almost sure that he won't be able to hurt Charlo and Charlo is a guy who keeps his cool much better than J-Rock.

You can count on Jermell to give a lot of nonsensical BS followed by bragging in third person.

        Has Jermell ever been tested?

Dude always answers questions like the interviewer disrespected him somehow. Gets irrationally mad in the middle of an answer and then either goes on a tirade or stops talking....all while speaking in 3rd person.

Lubin has inferred dude is on ******* ("Lines Only"), Breadman has made innuendo about Charlos on PEDs...I'm not sure if it's real, if it's chemically induced or of it's just an act but the whole thing is very annoying to me.

williams is prob not that good and is made of glass. we have 3 fights where he looked very bad: charlo, ishe, and rosario and 1 where he looked good. on to rosario, we have 3 figths where he looked very bad: cota, hernandez, and galimore and 1 where he looked good. Not the biggest sample sizes but as of now hard to put these guys as amazing talents and elite fighters

I'm with you on this one. Rosario is big and strong but Im not sure he is skilled enough to impose his will or land a clean power shot on Jermell. I see a violent fight with Charlo getting the better of exchanges and ultimately catching a battered Rosario with a clean one punch counter KO.

The thing about the J-Rock fight was that he really started unraveling when he got cut. As you stated, he didn't really respond well to that adversity and I think it was more that than anything else that caused his defeat.

Gallimore can crack fairly hard but the fact Banana was stopped by him tells me he won't handle the precision violence that Charlo attempts to bring. I think the Charlos struggle most with boxers who can take a shot and carry some power too. Harrison was all kinds of problem for Jermell until he started gassing (like he normally does) and got sloppy and ****** and stopped.

Agreed Rosario is a crude puncher that gets wild at times and is there to be hit everybody forgets Charlo can box he just started looking for knockouts but if he just boxes he can tag Rosario for sure and possibly break him down and stop him around the 9th. Jeison has a punchers chance but he looks fat in training camp hopefully he didn't blow up too big and is training for a weight loss camp instead of strategy because he is going to need it.

Yep, I think Charlo decides how this fight plays out. I think he can outbox Rosario and he can also probably stay more in pocket and mid-range and pick his counters.

Rosario will either need to land something big or use physicality to disrupt Charlo's measured attack. I'd like to see Banana win but I just don't think it will happen.
