What the **** is wrong with you people?
When americans kept fighting each other. most of the top fighters were white americans & it took years before african americans could finally have the same opportunities and when they did , a vast majority of em were dominating almost all divisions. boxing was basically owned by the US.
On one side you had the fans who didn't gave a ****.
and on the other, you had the fans who were looking for a "white hope". (whatever the **** that means , "hope"? pathetic..).
Then, when other nations had the opportunity to make it big..the demographics were slowly but surely changing too. Mexicans & asians are generally dominating the lighter weight divisions.
guys like Pacquiao , Calzaghe , Cotto , people from all sides of the world are also part of the game now.
boxing used to banned in some places.
estern euros had even more problems than anyone else and it took several more years for them to be part of the game too. They're actually very far from being "elites".
We still haven't seen their best talents yet. The Klitschkos won't be anything special when more and more of them will take interest in this sport.
Who knows..Maybe guys Povetkin or Boystov are possible future stars. Maybe they're nothing special.. But the point is.
It's just the beginning & they haven't even used their best athletes. So get used to it.
Cause I don't see how boxing will survive in the future if the fans are bitching about everyone's nationality and racial background.
You wanted a "white hope"? well guess what? You still don't have it. at least, not what you were expecting right?
Hatton? Calzaghe ? all those HW eastern euros? None of these guys are americans.
now you got white & black fans who'd rather have anyone in the HW division as long as He's american. some are now talking about a "black hope" ?!!!??.. WTF!!?
No wonder soccer is the most popular ****ing sport on the planet excepted in america. it's not wonder, that even in the ****ing UFC (mma, one of the fastest growing combat sport) , is still, in 2006 "selecting" their fighters (in other words 90% of them if not 95% are americans & they have the audacity to call their fighters champs of the world ,when all the top mmaers are fighting outside of america.)
How did you guys were reacting in the last Olympics , when the US basketball players were forced to leave with the bronze medal?
Bronze..., In a sport you guys are supposed to dominate no matter what.
What if one day the rest of the world suddenly decides to go gaga on american football , bringing monster 290 lbs super trained athletes and start dominating ? will you guys have a heart attack?
You guys don't even realise how positive these changes are for sports in general. We're in 2006. Times have changed. Boxing is more international than ever before. and it's a great thing.
don't blame boxing's recent lack of popularity on the HW.
cause the problem comes from elsewhere.
when mentalities don't change , there's no progressions.
without progress , everything stagnates.
if the fans can't get past their extreme prejudices ,boxing will become even less popular than ever. especially with the current popularity boom of mma.
