You are right, they never capitalize on that. The thing is when he is pressured, he gives as good as he takes it. Angulo put him down twice and then Lara make him quit. When a proud Mexican warrior like el perro quits, you know he had more than enough punishment. And hurd if not for the knockdown, he could have lost the fight.
