  • Comments Thread For: Roach: Pacquiao Won't Fight This Year; Will Box Once Or Twice Before Retiring

Freddie Roach doesn't expect Manny Pacquaio to box before the end of 2020. The Filipino legend's trainer keeps in contact with him and gets the sense that Pacquiao's responsibilities as a senator in the Philippines are consuming his time amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Roach anticipates Pacquiao will return to the ring sometime in 2021, but they haven't established a timetable for exactly when the WBA "super" welterweight champion will fight for the first time since July 2019.

I see that happening. IMO Manny can retire while being on top and witnessing beatingThurman was a sight. That would be great leaving the sport knowing you schooled a young undefeated champion!!!

He is most likely right this time.

Pac's last two fights will be in January and July.

That's the only time he is legally allowed by the Senate to fight.

Oct 2021 is when Presidential election campaign begins.

Manny isn't going to fight for potentially half his purse and no gate money.

That being said I think he should just have 1 more fight and retire. I love Manny but it's time to let this generation to fight each other and not chase him for the bag.

Beating Thurman was not that big of an accomplishment. I would put that in the middle of the pack if I were to rank his accomplishments. He should have retired after he was knocked out. What happened against Horn was a disgrace and ever since he stopped knocking out his opponents he really was not that great to watch. He was exciting to watch fight in his younger years because of his explosiveness and his knockouts.

                  Sounds like a great plan.

But Roach said it, so we know this is 100% not true.
