It's a smart move by both parties.

The proof is in the pudding though, Fury and AJ were chosen because they are the most popular and recognizable fighters and MMA heads know them by name and face.

    • Depends Joshua is popular with Arabs and blacks, Tyson Fury is popular with white folk in america.

They are both popular in the UK, but Joshua maybe has more scope within Europe and in Africa.

Anthony Joshua has a bigger scope world wide, but Tyson Fury is without no doubt 'Bigger in america', he has did what Joshua has be unable to achieve? 'Tyson Fury has cracked America'.

The last British fighter to invade America was Prince Naseem Hamed 'I would not say Fury is at that level yet, but another win against Wilder and he is taking more land within America'.

Agree. I don't think anyone let alone Tyson envisage how big he's become in America almost instantly.. the fight was took as a chance to gain a title and most if not all expected a forgone conclusion favouring Wilder, but Tyson had other ideas.

I knew wilder want anything special but I'd gladly admit I still thought he had enough about him to beat Fury. After the first fight I knew the second was going to be just a formality for Tyson, however I didn't expect it in that fashion.. I think that's probably won over the fans.. bull rivalry aside between countries, the American public have took well to Tyson for many reasons..

I totally agree with the closing hamed statement too

Any non-Heavyweight is automatically at a disadvantage globally. With "best boxer", the average Joe would automatically associate the Heavyweight champ.

I cannot speak for the UK where both Joshua and Fury appear to be similarly popular, but in the rest of Europe, Fury is clearly better known, quite simply because he makes the news more often. The latter is in part due to Fury's more exciting personality, in part because he was the one that originally dethroned Klitschko, and finally because the results of both Wilder fights were regarded as upsets.

            • Such a ****** term "face of boxing".

Would love to understand what that means?

There is no face of boxing, it will be in the beholder who will be bias. If you guys are gonna say it's the boxer who is universally recognised (and universal meaning the world and the world meaning the world, not just America), then i would say Mike Tyson.

Actually Conor McGregor is probably the Face of Boxing.

... basically stop making up w@nk terms to suit your narrative.

              • @Loaded wraps.. sorry to derail thread..

Apparently I can't comment on kidbazooka that varruca whatever his name is thread because he has me on his ignore list...

What's all that about? Surely you can reply but the thread maker simply doesn't see it like other forums I've been on... besides why don't you have a sensitivity test when signing up, seems like these millennials can't cope when you say something slightly negative about a boxer they E-Stalk..

The most universally recognized active boxer, not all time.

It is without question 2 Fast Fury.
