For every promoter that does guaranteed pay, they are authorized to cut half the check regardless of contract if said promoter can prove they're significantly losing revenue (>40%). But the fighter still has to adhere to the terms of the contract if they choose not to break it. If they do choose to break it they can without penalty.

That would open up more competition, methinks.
The point of contracts and guaranteed amounts is managing risk. Canelo could make $100 million from various ppvs, but he signed a guaranteed deal to eliminate the risk of underperforming ppvs or losing.

If the money isn't actually guaranteed, then he might as well go back to ppv.

Which is what I'm saying. No promoter should "guarantee" a payday. Because that's what enables guys like Crawford to fight soft touches or Lara to basically do the bare basic nothing and then whine about being robbed every time. There's no incentive to actually perform.

It's why Floyd was able to make so much money - every 147 fight was a PPV, quite a few of his 130's were too. It's a better model, I know the fans don't like it, but look at the alternative: Crawford vs. Kavaliauskas or Porter vs. Formella or Danny vs. Redkach.

How else do you explain that Floyd still made $30 million fighting Andre Berto yet we're hearing that Keef asking for $10 million to fight Crawford is "too much"?

          PPV.

Nope. The boxing world was in awe that Canelo walked GGG and fought him at his own pandering game. Industry and pros know it. Doesn’t matter if fans don’t see it

You know what’s seen more batted balls that Pete Rose’s bat? Your chin. Spit the d!ck out already. Canelo won a close fight and that’s all. No one was in awe of shyte and there was absolutely no “schooling or “outclassing” in that fight. Schooling and outclassing? That’s what Floyd did to your love interest (Canelo).

Industry and pros are not unanimous on that by the way. The fans and media on this one got it right.
