Whyte really needs to make sure he doesn’t take Povetkin lightly and quit with all this Fury talk...we already know Fury changes direction like the wind. I was at the o2 and witnessed how comfortably Povetkin handled Hughie Fury, and he has since held the highly rated Michael Hunter to a draw. Unless he has aged overnight, Povetkin is still very capable and dangerous with a great overhand right and left hook, along with plenty of experience, which can very feasibly topple Whyte.
Hate on Whyte all you want, but name me one fighter who would take on an unnecessary challenge like this ahead of their guaranteed shot at a title. In the HW division, definitely not Fury, and Usyk doesn’t appear to be agitating for a big fight either. I’m not going to criticise those guys as it’s pretty much the norm in boxing these days, but we should acknowledge when fighters like Whyte break the mould.
