All matchroom fans have to go on is that AJ filled a few stadiums. Well Fury hasn’t even fought in the UK since he become the face of boxing, so there’s not even a comparison to be made there. He would sell out those venues now too. Not forgetting AJ’s ticket sales were dwindling and no longer sell outs in the UK
At the end of the day, you can’t do all that without backing it up in the ring. Fury become the nations sweetheart and hero because he backs it up in the ring when he goes to USA in big fights.
AJ was very well managed and they did a great PR job but in the end he went to USA and got folded. That’s when joe public starts to understand the difference between greatness and just goodComment

ITV did a 4 part documentary on him on prime time TV and now BBC want him to be a TV host, I think it’s fair to say he’s the biggest name in UK sport right now, at least as far as individual sports go.

Boxing has far more serious concerns regarding allocation of resources, to wit, trying to connect the worldwide surge in popularity in boxing with the professional and amateur ranks, reducing the number of belts, sanctioning bodies and putting on better fights - 'The Contender' has proven to be nothing more than a slickly produced, highly edited piece of glitzy MTV-style trite, made worse because it falsely offers hope to fighters who, to date, after multiple series have never proved to be anything other than hyped, jumped up club fighters, embarrassing themselves with clichéd rhetoric and strained trash talk, scripted to regurgitate the oldest storylines in boxing.
Spare us please.
The money would be better spent on a new EA sports Fight Night. Really.Comment

He’s the darling of the nation now. A national treasure. The greatness cannot be denied.
He’s favourite to win sports personality and now being asked to host TV shows.
He’s easily the face of boxing now. Eddie Hearn must be seething that AJ is yesterday’s news and seen as a bit of a laughing stock since Ruiz.Comment

This would make great TV. I did lose interest in the Contender though, when they started having has-beens on the show, fighters who'd already had their chance. The first Contender was amazing, so many young prospects and unbeaten fighters. They've never had that quality a cast on since, really charismatic fighters too. Sergio Mora, Ishe Smith, Peter Manfredo, Alfonso Gomez, Ahmed Kaddour, Miguel Espino to name a few. That was a great lineup. We need another one like that, young, hungry unbeaten fighters.
It’ll be interesting to see whether they use solely UK fighters or an international cast. I’m not sure the talent pool is deep enough over here.Comment

Yeah the first season was class. I always kept an eye out for all of the cast members after the series concluded. Smith and Mora both went on to win world titles which shows how solid that lineup was.

That chit would be "Da Bomb!"
Wishful thinking though because most of them are signed to Sky, lol.Comment
