Comments Thread For: Hearn Hopes To Make McCaskill-Braekhus Rematch For 'November, December'

Eddie Hearn hopes Cecilia Braekhus' comments in the immediate aftermath of her first defeat didn't amount to an unofficial retirement speech. Hearn has been led to believe by Braekhus' adviser, Tom Loeffler, that she is at least interested in attempting to avenge her upset loss to Jessica McCaskill. If the 38-year-old Braekhus accepts the rematch McCaskill contractually owes her, her promoter mentioned "November, December" as the time frame Hearn has in mind for their second welterweight title fight.

That fight was a draw. The rule was and always should be: You need to dominate the champ to take their belts. Rematch!

McCaskill simply didn't do enough clean work to deserve taking home the belts. Most of her attack was blind flailing with her head down, landing the occasion wild shot. That's not enough to dethrone a long-reigning champ.

if they won't make the rounds 3mins, at least make them 2 and a half mins, 2 mins is really difficult to judge rounds.

Yeah 95-95 for me too. If I didn't score round by round though and just watched it and then at the end was asked who won I'd probably have said McCaskill, you know those fights that you're not scoring so you just take a overrall view of it rather than a breakdown. A bit like the Courtenay vs Ball fight the week before, I didn't score that one but felt as if Courtenay probably did enough to nick it

Except that that's not at all "the rule" at all in boxing, nor has it ever been "the rule." Please read up on the Unified Rules of Boxing Commissions and the 10-point must system for reference on the actual rules.

As far as the fight goes, McCaskill fought like a drunken toughman contestant, but she forced the fight and was more effective. Braekhus fought like she was 50 yrs old and absolutely stunk the joint out. Well-deserved decision for McCaskill.

McCaskill won but Braekhus could rematch and just do a Ruiz-Joshua II type number and win a rematch

Yeah, possibly, but it sure doesn't seem like her heart is in it anymore. TBH, her skillset is nowhere near as good as advertised either. Braekhus gets embarrassed by a much smaller Katie Taylor and demolished by Claressa Shields. Braekhus is painfully slow and her defense is non-existent.

Hearns willing to make this fight but not Harper vs Jonas 2 which was much better and an instant classic!

I think McCaskill wins again, she’s stronger and hits harder and has more hunger!

Braekhus is very weak in the clinch and has no inside fighting game, next time she needs to stay on her toes and use the ring which is what she naturally does!

Don’t be surprised she leaves Sanchez if she opts for the rematch!
