A tomato can with a powerful manager (Haymon). Decent career could have been better if he was more dedicated and stayed in better shape. But he probably knew he was mediocre at best and didn't have the self belief and drive to ever get into top shape. Probably never really loved boxing but got forced into it by his dad. Decent career.

He reminds me on past prime Botha. Past prime Botha was always out of shape, losing all fights, fun to watch.

Well, prime Botha was obviously much better boxer, he was in some big fights.

Botha was far superior. I believe Haymon intended to use Kauffman as a Botha type of pawn for his more sellable heavyweights but Kauffman could never impress enough to reach that level. He just was not good enough, fit enough, smart enough, disciplined enough.

Kauffman had everything behind him to succeed, to be modern Tex Cobb or Gerry Cooney or Botha or Tommy Morrison - but he didn't take advantage of the set up and ended up a career tomato can.
