I don't think fighters should be walking around over 40 lbs. from their weight class! That seems to be more common today! Can't be healthy!

As Benevidez himself acknowledged, it's on him but, given the restrictions in gym time + no sauna or hot bath facility available ( both things that fighters use to cut weight) then I can see how he missed.
I think that's the problem! Spence said he was 180+before training for Porter! That's ridiculous for a WW! Floyd walked around @ 160, and Manny walked around at 150, in their prime! I don't see the extreme weight cutting as an advantage!

For the people comparing weight cuts with Jorge Masvidal that's a ****** comparison Jorge used to fight at 155 he said so himself that he doesn't cut a huge amount of weight to make 170 the only reason he had to cut 20 lbs in a week was because he took the fight on short notice and had been partying just like Nate Diaz did against McGregor but it was no different than when he cut down to 155 so 20 lbs was nothing it was mostly all water weight.

David on the other hand walks around at over 200+ and is a way larger frame than Masvidal he spends his camps making weight to begin with different sports too MMA guys are used to cutting a lot more weight than boxers especially since they work with a lot of high level wrestlers who are used to cutting weight on short notice.

I also saw someone say they should be on weight days before are you a ****ing idiot you realize these people dehydrate the hell out of themselves to make weight even your favorite fighters aside from Heavyweights which is why they eventually move up in weight if you dehydrate yourself that many days before a fight you are either going to end up in hospital before the fight, during the fight, or after one of the 3 that is not safe at all.
        Very Good post bro.
Not sure if people were aware of it. But Benavidez was a fat kid in his younger days.
You can tell by looking at his face in between fights.
So he obviously blows up to the 200 pound range when not in camp.

The issue about being on weight Days Before the fight.
Dude. People expose their lack of professional Boxing knowledge when they type B.S like that.

He says all this but watch him not move up. Just another Brandon Rios.

No no no Angulo done the work and made weight, he shouldn't be punished because the champ failed to do the same, he did what he was contracted to do so the belt must be on the line, the opportunity can't just be taken from him at the last minute like that, that's extremely unjust

Man I agree 100 with your statement! 20-25 max. Outside of that they are really weight bullies

That's a valid point. I just hate seeing a talented young champion like Benavidez lose his title over missing weight for a stay-busy fight but at the end of the day 100% of the blame belongs on Benavidez and his team. He should've been more disciplined or notified his team well in advance, so they could make it a catch weight fight

I do sympathise somewhat with DB, because he's never missed before and he gave legitimate reasons why it was different this time, this time there was a difference, the pandemic and he says that the restrictions affected his access to what he needs to train. Someone floated the idea of giving fighters a 2lb buffer zone for fights occurring out of the lockdown but of course once you announce that they won't even try to make weight, they'll just aim for weight limit + 2lbs.

Damn this guy has lost the belt twice now and is still undefeated, that'll make a strange headline years from now, will have people wondering how did that happen.

Yeah he was close to 300 lbs in his teens but to be fair he needs to stay closer to fighting weight instead of blowing up like he has been this quarantine had a lot of people staying at home and not able to workout how they normally would so I let it pass for now they also need to do better at providing the proper amenities for these fighters during fight week most if not all fighters cut weight up until the last minute possible so they need access to a sauna they should've provided the mini portable ones that you can setup for a single person.
