HBO announces Valuev-Barrett!

Word on the street for quite some time has been that WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev would defend against Monte Barrett on October 7, but it was never officially announced until Saturday night by HBO, which will televise the fight. The co-feature will be a rematch between WBC light heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek and Paul Briggs. The card was originally slated for Madison Square Garden, but will now take place at a venue to be named. The network also announced a September 23 super flyweight clash between Jorge Arce and Masibulele "Hawk" Makepula. That event is expected to take place at the Home Depot Center near Los Angeles.

Other non-announced fights in the HBO pipeline include Floyd Mayweather on November 4, Wladimir Klitschko on November 11, Winky Wright on December 2 and Ricky Hatton on December 9. Opponents to be named.

I agree big time, but I think Barrett is a bigger step up then Beck, this is still a weak fight for Valuev but atleast hes fighting in America on HBO...

valuev seems to be taking on guys who are not only sorry, but undersized.

at least put him in there with another big heavy. tye fields, timo hoffman, danny williams... barrett wont be able to overcome the physical disadvantage in this fight and will get clobbered
