that was a s***t scam too but not worse by any means. Pac was a world champion at 147 and top 2 p4p in the world at the time. You can argue that he deserved a title shot because plenty of established world champions in a lower weight class get an immediate shot once they move up. It's happened with Floyd, Cotto, Oscar, Roy, Crawford and many more. Margarito had no business getting a 154 pound shot coming off a suspension for cheating and beating 1 nobody but still not worse than 2 guys who were never world champions at that point, and 1 wasn't even ranked top 15 in the weight class below by the same organization that gave him a title shot. And that also was a catch weight, for a vacant title.

the critique wasn't mainly about the catchweight. The critique was that in order to get canelo to break a record that truly belonged to Fernando vargas (youngest world champion at 154), an undeserving opportunity was created for Canelo. Canelo, who hadn't done anything at 154 at that time was given a title shot and the opponent that was selected for him was a low ranked welterweight who accomplished nothing at 147 and never fought at 154. How did Matthew Hatton get pushed to the front of the line ahead of actual junior middleweights?? It was an attempt to give canelo the easiest possible chance to win his first title. The catchweight is much less significant than that.

Yet PAC’s fan and other analysts will try to tell you Floyd ducked a guy who wasn’t ready to fight at 147 and was waiting for Floyd’s legs to tire aka waiting for Floyd to get old.

So what did Maidana do to deserve Floyd’s WBC 154 in the rematch? It was on the line. That’s 7lbs!

Canelo wasn’t even tipping 154 when he won the WBC Silver. He was floating below 152. He could’ve hit the limit of 154. Even Baldomir weighed more. Hatton had more 147-154 fights than Maidana did. Against why did Maidana deserve the 154 WBC with Floyd? Hatton vs Canelo was a fair fight considering Matt’s experience at Welter-154 before Canelo’s rise to that fight.

Floyd Maidana and Canelo Hatton situations are COMPLETELY different.

The Floyd Maidana situation wasn't created to give Floyd or Maidana an advantage.

It was created in order to make sure that The Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao fight happens, in other words, so that the fight if the century happens.

Floyd's mandatory was due, so they knew that if Floyd had to defend the 154 scrap after Maidana, then the window to make the Floyd vs Pac fight would shrink considerably.

This decision was not made for Floyd, it was made for the ENTIRE boxing community. EVERY boxing fan and stakeholder wanted and needed MayPac to happen. EVERYONE.

The decision was made for the benefit of EVERYONE.
