So what category would a boxer fall in? They could fall in every category stated at any point in their career
It's clearly a combination, but ultimately without the endurance to keep fighting a boxer is effed so I'd say more towards the older end 28 -30 or so. Of course the ring craft and experience gained through fighting at the top level means that the physical ain't the only factor involved here, but as a general rule of thumb the slow decline in physicality - seen earliest in reaction times and speed rather than strength and enduence - can be compensated for by increased craft and ring IQ upto maybe age 32 or 33. Past that a fighter is declining - more slowly perhaps at the higher weights, Heavyweight especially. No fighter of 35 or 36 is as good as the same fight of 30 or 31 unless they only took up boxing in their mid 20s.
