Comments Thread For: Chavez Sr: Valdez Looked Ordinary, Not Enough To Beat Berchelt

Chavez is 100% right. A guy who’s natural instinct is to brawl is going to look off when his coach has him trying to box more efficiently. He’s gotta make it work somehow though because it’s do or die time, berchelt is next.

Valdez gets walked through by Berchelt and carved up by Stevenson.

“Eddy Reynoso is very good, but with Canelo. We are getting confused, because Eddy Reynoso is not going to do to other fighters what he's done with Canelo's style." this is what people fail to understand, just because a trainer has success with a superstar, doesn't mean it'll translate to any other boxer. Virgil Hunter had underwhelming results with almost every fighter outside of Ward. I'm not sure if anyone in Reynosos camp will reach the expectations that are placed upon them just for being with Canelo's trainer.

I agree with Chavez on this one about the trainer. It's really up to the fighter if he wants to change. The trainer can only do but so much. Once a fighter gets hit, he goes back to his natural instincts.

Just depends on the fighter there have been some fighters who have changed trainers and looked great others not so much but I don't understand because Valdez was a good amateur had to have enough boxing skills to get to the level he got it's just in his nature to revert back to slugging and I think that will be his downfall against Berchelt.

Some fighters take longer than others before they "click" with a new trainer.

That seems to be the case with Valdez. He just doesn't look comfortable yet with his new style. Maybe he never will.
