Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz Will Not Have Robert Garcia in Corner For Vargas Bout

As a precautionary measure, renowned trainer Robert Garcia will not work the corner for Vergil Ortiz Jr. (15-0, 15 KOs) tonight in his bout against Samuel Vargas (31-5-2, 14 KOs) at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and live on DAZN. In his place, Vergil Ortiz Sr. will fulfill the role of chief second.

Not having your head trainer for any fight is a detriment to a fighter no matter how talented. Especially a guy like Garcia whose been doing nothing but breeding top-notch fighters at his gym. Hope that doesn't play a factor into the fight. Regardless, I still expect Ortiz to destroy Vargas.

Robert is right. Ortiz will do great even without him in his corner. It's unfortunate that he tested positive on the first exam for covid. Hope he gets well. It's a funny thing and I don't mean that in a haha way but surprising because I remember watching footage of him in his gym with a bunch of other people and they had said his dad wasn't there because of covid, So it was a risk factor that at some point Robert would unknowingly get infected by someone in the gym or he got it somewhere in California wherever he's been at in the last 2 weeks. Good thing they took precautions though in not having him there. At least Ortiz has his dad in his corner.

I think he'll be fine. Robert gave him the proper training to prepare for Vargas. It wasn't too long ago this happened to another prospect, Josue Vargas, who could not have his dad/trainer there in his last fight as a covid precaution and the other prospect's trainer volunteered to be in his corner and Vargas had no issues

            Ortiz will be ok
Yes , not having your trainer in the corner can be problematic
But just can’t see him in much trouble with Vargas

Well that's fooked up, but understandable being that things are how they are. Would suck if Vergil for whatever reason needed Robert's guidance on that night & got a L. Doubt it happens obviously but if it did it'd suck for him.

Man I love this comment. And would love to stir up the pot and create arguments. But to have compassion to the victims that have passed, I won't.....

But the world has to continue! Geez. I'm sure Robert Garcia didn't feel a bit of difference at any point before, during, or after any of his tests. The world is soft as hell right now
