Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz: Crawford, Spence - I Literally Want To Fight All Those Guys!

Unbeaten rising welterweight contender Vergil Ortiz believes that he's already at the point where he wants to take on the best boxers in his weight division. Ortiz, only 22-years-old, is back in the ring next Friday night when he faces veteran Samuel Vargas at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Sammy Vargas will serve as a common opponent for Vergil Ortiz and the unified IBF-WBC welterweight champ Errol Spence jr. ; who has been involved in public disagreements with the Golden-Boy Blue-chip prospect and fellow Texan.

I think Errol clearly outclassed Vargas but Sammy was not completely out of it when he was stopped in the 4th, Vergil is set to make a statement next week. I'm eager to see what unfolds.

Ortiz got the power to hurt any of those guys. The problem is he doesn’t have the Ring IQ to beat Crawford imo. However Ortiz vs Ramirez would be a hell of a fight! I think GBP and Top Rank should plan it in the future. Just waiting for Ramirez to go to 147. Maybe Ortiz will be a Champ by then and we see the defense against Ramirez. Probably not until 2023 unfortunately

If he beats Vargas, I would be all in for Hooker vs. Ortiz! Two Texas fighters going at it! Should be fun to watch, and should be easy to make!

You can't make a comparison from the "common foe" because Spence fought Vargas in April 2015! Vargas was also KO'd by Danny Garcia in November 2016, and lost to Amir Khan in 2018!

The way I see it, a developing Errol Spence jr. had 15 professional bouts when he faced 20-1-1 Sammy Vargas, who had lacked world-level experience and came in with a heavily padded record in 2015. In my opinion, referee Tony Chiarantano stopped the action prematurely ; so Vargas did not suffer too much punishment against Errol Spence in the few rounds shared between the two. However, In 2016, Danny Garcia did give Sam a beating for seven rounds, but, like Spence, Garcia did not put him out.

15-0-0 Vergil Ortiz is going in against Sam Vargas with a identical record as Errol Spence had in 2015 against said opponent, but Sam Vargas is a much more experienced seasoned veteran coming in with the best performances of his career vs. Amir 'King' Khan and Luis Collazo.

I think Vergil Ortiz is going to blast Sammy, but its not because Vargas is shot, I would say its because Vergil Ortiz is the most dynamic explosive prospect at 147.
