I mean Charlo got a fake belt but DC has leverage to make more money vs Canelo instead of fighting Charlo. Why would he risk that payday considering that wether he wins loses or draws vs Canelo he’ll still get a Charlo fight either way but if he loses to Charlo no way in the hell would Canelo ever fight him.

I think its a combination of factors:

1. He doesn't have to move to 168.
2. Money was probably similar or slightly higher.
3. He figures that with his experience fighting GGG and Jacobs Charlo won't show him anything he hasn't seen before. He's betting that a win over Charlo makes him more marketable for a fight with one of the bigger names.
