Wow I'm looking forward to seeing him at 126 I just hope he doesn't fight someone outside the top 5 for the belt.

So their seems to be justification for moving him to the front of the line. They are ostensibly operating within their rulebook.

But I would like to hear their explanation for why Magdaleno gets to skip Michael Conlan, Ruben Villa, and Ryan Walsh.

A lot of bullsh¡t has gone on with sanctioning orgs before. But as boxing fans we should be getting smarter and demanding better. The boxing media should also play it's role as public watchdog better too.
Huh? Nah, best I can tell Navarette doesn't meet any of the requirements for Super status (and the WBOs super status is more like a lifetime achievement award)... ain't close to 10 defences, ain't unified, ain't held titles in multiple weight classes and didn't have an exceptional ammy career. Only possible grounds under their rules would be excellence of opposition... and... well that's probably pushing it, much as I was a fan of Dogboe. Sure they'd find a way to do it anyway if it was really felt necessary but it probably ain't cos they'd be justified in granting him a top 10 ranking at 126 I think and the rules do allow for any ranked contender to request consideration for mandatory.

Sad thing is I actually really like this fight, be one of the better ones that could be made at 126 in my book, and FWIW I like both fighters. Navarette really impressed me with his wins over Dogboe even if he ain't done much since and I've been happy to see Magdelano get back in the grove after the shock loss to Dogboe. My issue ain't that I don't want the fight to happen it's simply that the continued bending and compromising of the rules is one of the major things that undermines the credibility of the sport in my book.... Not only have we got 4 different major titles be we also gotta face the fact that even those 4 ain't necessarilty giving their titles and title shots to the guys most entitled to 'em.

Mind boggling... just boxing shooting itself in the nuts once more way I see it. The WBO gonna go to the effort of devising a set of rules at least I expect 'em to follow em.

But yeah absolutely agree on the latter part. I like this fight but no way should either of these fighters just get to jump the queue in my book... make it for a regional title (it already would be I think), make it an eliminator maybe, but not a title fight. And I agree, we should be doing more as fans, but what exactly? I guess you could boycott if it's a PPV or something, but aside from that, what?

I look forward to seeing him at 126 too, and I think he can make waves, I just don't think he should be entitled to just jump straight into a title shot whether his opponent's top 5 or not. Let him fight an eliminator first... hell, make Navarette vs Magdaleno an eliminator.

He has a multiple bout contract with a major network, ESPN. Maybe also with TV Azteca too.

He has defended his title against an opponent of high recognition.

He has a good record and has beat opponents with good records.

The other categories don't seem to be requirements, just factors that will be considered. According to the WBO's murky wording.

We're doing it now. Voicing displeasure at the seediness of all this and at the orgs selling out to promoters for money.

If there is enough outcry and backlash on social media about something the Powers That Be often feel the pressure.

I'm surprised he or his promoters haven't said a word about this.

Are they just going to accept getting skipped over?

Ha well I certainly don't wanna get bogged down in whether Navarette's deserving of super staus, but I reckon the WBO would have some cheek to push it. Good fighter, but outside of Dogboe he ain't really beat anyone of note at all.

As to the latter though, yeah, apart from staring some kinda letter writing or e-mail campaign the 'Scene is our voice as fans so I guess we oughta use it. Don't imagine the we're gonna turn the world of boxing upside-down but the movers and shakers in the sport will be taking note of what the fans are saying and we are one of the largest online boxing communities.
