Comments Thread For: Navarrete, Magdaleno Ready To Fight For Stevenson's Vacant Belt

Given the recent confirmation that Shakur Stevenson will move up to 130-pounds and vacate the World Boxing Organization featherweight championship, there are already two fighters who are highly interested in fighting for the vacant belt. Emanuel 'Vaquero' Navarrete and Jessie Magdaleno have both expressed their interest in fighting for the vacant belt, according to ESPN Deportes.

Just a point of technical detail:

Pursuant to the WBO's rules, if a world champion decides to move up in weight then they would automatically become the mandatory challenger in the new division.
Best I'm aware that ruling applies only to WBO Super Champs - which Navarette ain't - although under their rules pretty much anyone who's ranked can request that they be made mandatory and I'm sure that would extend to regular champions in adjacent divisions. The upshot is that under the WBOs rules the other ranked contenders at Featherweight, dudes like Walsh, Mori and Marriaga should
get priority, although given the extingencies and the relative magnitude of a Navarette vs Magdaleno fight I could see the WBO being more flexible with their regs.

The logic indicates that common and villa should fight for the vacated title and navarette can apply for mandatory status. There would need to be a lot of convenient "unavailability" for magdelano to somehow end up getting that fight!

It's a convenient rule which is manipulated to fit in the plans of the WBO promoter of preference, TR. Just ask the undefeated super middleweight champ who vacated for that reason after the guidance of Arum. Or promises from Arum and TR and the WBO. All lies and set up to get him out of dominating 168 any longer. Then the puppet game to the point where I need to check if the kid is even active! A bunch of BS is what it is. Besides Magdaleno, will never fight Navarrete. He is a scared fighter with a gift of skill. Should look for another profession or trainer. One who teaches kids to stand up and be brave.

          Then make the fight happen.

Is a shame that Emmanuel Navarrete never did a unification. Maybe we can point fingers to Covid-19 in part. Hope he have success in his new endeavor.

Looking at the rankings that makes no sense but they are Bob's belts so he can do what he wants I guess

Zurdo wasn't dominating **** at 168. He looked like garbage against Hart twice after beating a bunch of club guys.

The top four 126 pounders in the WBO rankings are:

                  1. Michael Conlan (Top Rank)
                  2. Ruben Villa (Thompson Boxing/Banner Promotions)
                  3. Ryan Walsh (MTK Global)
                  4. Jessie Magdaleno (Top Rank)

If Navarrete moves up he should fight Conlan, Villa, or Walsh for the vacant belt. (Although Walsh is already involved in the MTK Golden Contract tournament so I could see him being out of the running.)

How the hell does Magdaleno get the shot? Well...because that's what Bob Arum wants and we all know the WBO stands for World Bobarum Organization.

If I was Ruben Villa I would be screaming bloody murder about this. How much longer is the boxing press going to stay quiet about the blatant collusion between this sanctioning body and this promoter?
