I'll be supporting him and he nailed it btw - I've been preaching the exact same for years on her and it falls on deaf ears: the notion that you are old or over the hill in your 30s is antiquated and irresponsible. You see grandpabernard always clinging to this myth in all of his threads. We have made vast discoveries and revelations in sports science and nutrition, and humans are living longer in general. Competing into your 40s is a choice, you aren't some outlier.

People still swear you fall off a cliff after 31 and it's hilarious you can tell it's a bunch of desk jockeys who generally recite that nonsense.

Now all that said, damage in the ring and injuries play a huge roll, and Maravillas knees were jacked up, so this isn't just age and ring rust. But I'll be rooting for him. Cats out here think they are doing someone a favor by saying stuff like "don't come back and fight Mike". Imagine someone calling themselves your friend and then discouraging you from doing something you love. I'm all for fighters refusing to hang it up. I love that passion and that refusal to let time dictate the rules for you.

Imagine being someones friend and watching them get their ass kicked by someone who couldnt lace up their gloves 10 years ago in a sport where people die now thats love.

Martinez is one of my favorite fighters but he looked shot to **** in his last 2 fights he should have lost to Murray and he looked battle worn in his fight against Miguel Cotto was lucky to make it out the first round. Yeah you are right some fighters age better than others but in this case Sergio relied on his legs and his knees just didn't hold up not the first fighter it's happened to.

Different fighters hit their primes at different times there is some greats that maintain that championship level from their early 20's into their mid 30's but to me I feel most fighters hit their primes from 28-35 after that it's rare to see top level guys looking explosive in their late 30's early 40's.

Damn Maravilla! I'm going to watch because I loved your fights at 154 but be careful. This is probably gonna end bad.

If I’m not mistaken his knees had no cartilage anymore and he was bone on bone. I know now they have PRT and stem cell therapy that work wonders on joint conditions, but his age is also a detriment to continued boxing success. I hope it works out for him, and I truly hope he isn’t returning due to financial hardships.

As long as there is no cure for age and clinical age reversal, old farts like these need to retire. Mankind will never be able to reverse aging. Not in a 100 years or longer. And it's embarrassing when these old guys think the can do better than they did in their prime or do more of something.
