  • Comments Thread For: Arum: We'll Definitely Make Berchelt-Valdez; Could Be Another Morales-Barrera

Assuming Miguel Berchelt and Oscar Valdez win their upcoming fights, Bob Arum still intends to match the Mexican junior lightweights later this year. Berchelt and Valdez probably would've fought already had the COVID-19 pandemic not temporarily shut down the boxing business three months ago. Arum, whose company co-promotes Berchelt and promotes Valdez, wants to wait, however, until fans can attend shows before scheduling their fight for Berchelt's 130-pound title.

Anyone else got a feeling that Berchelt just smashes him? I don’t think they’re evenly matched the same way Barrera and Morales were.

Sorry but not every all Mexican match up can be another barrera vs morales. You have to have a combination of elite skills, brawling ability, heart and animosity to recreate that type of fight. Other promotors/fighters have tried to use Barrera vs morales as a way to promote their all Mexican match ups but have wound up with duds instead.

Gotta agree with you here unless Valdez does something unexpected or gets some heart lol
But my thinking is Berchelt will overwhelm him and Valdez gonna need to dig deep and that’s where I think he ain’t got it

Yeah I just don’t see Valdez being able to trade fire with fire with Berchelt.

I just don’t think he has enough heart
When getting overwhelmed I just can’t see him digging deep but I can see him saying fugh this
Another day another dollar , unfortunately that’s today’s boxers mindset

To be fair, most of the time when two Mexicans fight you get a good scrap.

Everyone wants to claim "Mexican style" for a reason.

Damn do I love Valdez, but he's basically moving up to fight a monster that should be at 135. Berchelt is going to slaughter him in a 4 round firefight and I'm going to feel sick to my stomach watching it

Never compare a bum like oscar valdez to barrera and morales.
